Happy New Year! I love the beginning of a new year with fresh energy and anticipation of what is to come. We made it through the holidays and enjoyed some time off together at Christmas which was very nice and appreciated by all four of us! We also enjoyed receiving letters and pictures from friends all over the U.S. - I love getting fun mail and not bills!! Thank you all who sent notes - we loved them!
Santa was very good to the girls and they were very excited for Christmas morning this year. In fact we told them they couldn't get up before 6am - they woke up at 4am and then woke us up. I tucked them back in and said 6am - then come get us! They didnt' wake up until 6:32 and ran in with excitement and nearly screamed "aren't you excited Mom & Dad...we let you sleep in until 6:32"! Gotta love digital clocks and God Bless the way they think! It made us laugh and we ran out to see if Santa found us in AZ, he did! The girls had A LOT of questions about logistics regarding Santa and his elves this year. In fact, Hailey wrote and mailed a very detailed list of questions to Santa and actually received a response. She was quite happy with that. We enjoyed a lovely Christmas Eve service in sunny Tucson where we spent a week with my Grandfather and an Aunt and Uncle.
We got home the evening of the 30th, spent the 31st preparing Dana for his trip to Guyana and he left very early this morning! I was sad this time when he left and not as much when he went to Missouri for an entire summer. I think because 1. I can't drive to see him if need be and 2. we will have very limited communication for the next 26 DAYS! I'm over it now though and started purging the house this afternoon... he won't remember all that stuff that went to the Goodwill...I hope!
Well, that's all I've got for now! We spent a quiet, but fun New Year's Eve at home with the girls and let them stay up until 11pm (celebrated EST with New York) under the condition that they would NOT get up before 9am for me this morning...it actually worked! They got up at 8:57 and 8:59 - how funny is that?
Dana called from New York this afternoon before he boarded his flight to the Port of Spain -please keep him and all of the traveling students in your prayers this January. They all go to different places and for different lengths of time for the month of January.
Dana and I were looking back at the past year and feeling so loved and blessed and amazed at how the Lord has provided for us and affirmed our call to ministry. We feel so lucky to have such wonderful, supportive friends and family in our life and pray for you all to have a wonderful, healthy 2010!
Blessings from the Helsing Family!
